Hubbard County Courthouse History
Hubbard County's court history starts before a permanent courthouse. County and court business used donated or rented locations until 1889, when James Cutler donated land in Todd Township and a two-story courthouse was built. That early building later suffered a fire and returned to township use as a town hall. On September 23, 1899, the county applied for a $15,000 state loan to build a courthouse in Park Rapids.
Cyrus Hollinger donated the land for the 1899 courthouse. M.E. Beebe designed the building, and N.C. Bacheller built the two-story brick courthouse for $13,485. The current Hubbard County Courthouse was built in 1975. The Judicial Branch history describes it as a 32,484-square-foot dark-brick building over a steel frame, designed by Koehnlein/Lightowler/Johnson Inc. and built by Twin City Construction of Fargo for $1.25 million.
Since the current courthouse opened, the old courthouse has been renovated into the Hubbard County Historical Society Museum and the North Country Museum of Arts.
